Knitwear, Cared For

Good knitwear rewards a little attention. Treat a merino jumper well and it will keep its shape and softness for years.

The essentials:

  • Wash less than you think — air it after wearing and spot-clean small marks.
  • When you do wash, use cool water and a wool-friendly detergent, inside out.
  • Never wring. Press the water out gently and dry flat, reshaping as you go.
  • Fold, don’t hang — hangers stretch the shoulders.
  • Store with cedar, not mothballs, and give it room to breathe.

Do this, and the piece you reach for this winter will still look right five winters from now.
